Your profile
Your profile is how you appear in the Taifa Identity portal and how your organization matches you to its records. The first time you sign in, the portal asks for your name, a photo, your phone number and your national ID number before anything else. After you continue, you cannot change these yourself. If something is wrong, you ask an administrator to correct it.
What is stored
| Detail | Required | What is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | The name you type, 1 to 80 characters. |
| Photo | Yes | A PNG, JPEG or WebP image. The portal shrinks it to 512 pixels in your browser first, which also removes camera and location details. |
| Phone number | Yes | Stored encrypted. It is not verified, and the portal says so next to it. |
| National ID number | Yes | Stored encrypted. After you save it, only the last 4 characters are ever shown back. |
Your organization’s deployment decides which details are required. The setup page says which details are required and counts them as you go (for example 2 of 4 done). Continue stays unavailable until every required detail is filled in, and the reason is shown next to it.
Your email address is not part of the profile. The portal shows a masked email only after you have verified your security contact with a one-time code. Until then the setup page says Not verified yet, and you can verify it from your account after you continue.
Your account is identified by the issuer that signed you in and your subject identifier there, never by your email address or phone number.
Setting it up
- Type your name and choose a photo.
- Type your phone number, for example 0712 345 678 or +254 712 345 678.
- Type your national ID number, then type it again to confirm. Check it carefully.
- Read the note above Continue: you cannot change these yourself after you continue. An administrator can correct a mistake.
- Choose Continue. If the portal asks you to confirm it is you, sign in again and continue. Profile changes need a sign-in from the last 5 minutes.
If you leave part way through, whatever you already saved stays saved and locked. The next time you open the portal it brings you back to finish the rest.
Locked details
Once a detail is saved it is locked. On My account, then Profile, a locked detail shows a lock and the words Locked. Ask an administrator to correct it. There is no Edit or Remove for it. A detail that is not locked, or that is still empty, can be filled in from the same page, and it locks once you save it.
Asking for a correction
- Open My account, then Profile.
- Choose Request a correction next to the detail.
- Explain what is wrong in 8 to 500 characters. Administrators of your Institution read this, so do not type your national ID or phone number in it.
- Choose Send request. The detail then shows Correction requested until an administrator acts.
You can have one request waiting per detail. An administrator can clear the detail, after which you enter it again yourself, once. For your name they can also type the corrected name for you. An administrator never types your national ID, phone number or photo, and never sees your full national ID or phone number.
Who sees it
- You can see every detail of your own profile, with the phone number masked and the national ID shortened to its last 4 characters.
- Administrators of your Institution see your name and any correction request you send. When they correct a detail they see only whether it is set, never the full national ID or phone number.
- Nothing in your profile is added to the sign-in tokens that apps receive.
What the national ID is for
The national ID is used to match you to service records that already carry your ID number. It is not used to sign you in and it never replaces your passkey.
If something is not available
If the portal says the phone number or national ID is not available yet, the service that encrypts them has not been switched on. When those details are required you cannot finish setting up until it is. Try again later, or contact your Institution administrator.
